Parallel bundled cables typically employ four conductors arranged in a square‑symmetric configuration, with the conductors interconnected by insulating layers and reinforcing tapes that run parallel to one another. (Other conductor configurations include two‑core, three‑core, and four‑core designs.)
The reactance of parallel bundled cables is one-sixth that of conventional overhead insulated conductors; consequently, for the same cross-sectional area, their current-carrying capacity is higher. When used in medium- and low-voltage distribution networks, they help mitigate the drawback of significant voltage drop. For low-voltage lines employing bundled cables, line losses typically decrease by 5% to 10% compared with conventional configurations.
